Uses

I get asked all the time, what lens did you use for that? What Camera are you using? What LUTS do you use for your videos. So here is a list of everything I use, all in one place.

Cameras

  • My main a-roll camera is the Sony a7IV and I can't recommend this camera enough.
  • My main B Camera is the Sony FX30 which is a fantastic APSC cinema camera with tons of awesome video features.

Lenses

  • My main video lens I use for most YouTube Videos is the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8. This is the mark 1 version of the lens, and it's been an absolute workhorse since I got it a number of years ago.
  • Probably my go to Portrait lens these days is the Sony 50mm f/1.4. Absolutely gorgeous bokeh and just a fantastic all around lens.
  • Second to the 50mm is my Sigma 35mm f/1.4. I tend to use this more for walking around as it's a bit wider and can capture multiple people without backing up too far
  • My wide angle lens is the Tamron 17-28 f/2.8 and this is what I use for wide landscape shots.
  • The Sirui 24mm f/1.2 Nightwalker lens is a fantastic cheap little APSC manual cinema lens. I'll use this for beautiful Broll shots.

Lighting

Audio

  • I use the Shure SM7B Mic plugged into this little audio interface for my YouTube videos. The sound out of this mic is unmatched, albeit at a cost.
  • A cheaper shotgun Mic I used to use is the Rode Videomic NTG which also sounds great.

Backpacks

  • My everyday walking around bag is the Nomatic Luma in Orange. I've had this a few years now and it's a solid everyday bag with lots of flexibility to carry whatever gear I need.
  • My travel bag is the big Peter McKinnon Nomatic 35L bag. Pretty expensive, but I absolutely love this bag for travel. It's huge. It's flexible with compartments for anything and everything. And it looks dope.

Camera Strap

  • I'm using a the Premium rope camera strap by Woodgate Camera Straps. I don't always use a strap, but this is a nice one for when I do.

Laptop for Editing

  • I'm still using a Macbook Pro M2 Pro 1TB and it does the job, although it's not the fastest for using any complicated Fusion animations. For normal video editing and photo editing it works just fine.

Storage

  • I'm currently using this NVMe SSD enclosure and inside it is a 4TB NVMe SSD. It's wicked fast and I have 2 of these. I also use slower bigger hard drives for backup but the SSDs are my working drives.

Monitor

  • I'm using a 32" Asus ProArt display. Love it, and it's way cheaper than an Apple Display.

Headphones

  • I've been using the Bose QuietComfort SC headphones for a while now and the noise cancellation is next to none.

Camera Filters

  • I use a Polar Pro Mist filter on nearly every YouTube Video I shoot. I love the glowy look you get out of a mist filter and this one doesn't have any weird color cast.
  • For photography, I have the Shortstache Everyday Filter on my camera probably 90% of the time.
  • I bought step-up rings so I could use one 82mm filter on all my lenses.

Other Cool Toys

  • I use the DJI Mini 4 Pro drone quite a bit. I'd say it's the perfect drone for creators.
  • I have the GoPro Hero 11 for snowboarding and water sports. It's not the most up-to-date model, and I know DJI and Insta360 make some better action cameras now, I just haven't had the need to update it.
  • I use the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 when I want cinema level footage but don't want to bring a camera.

Other Accessories

  • The external camera monitor I use is the Osee Lilmon 5. Great little cheap monitor with all the features I need.

There's probably other stuff I can add but this is stuff I'm using on a regular basis.
